A sketch scheme for an extension to a small semi detached cottage in Herefordshire. The existing building (white) was to be almost doubled in size (black + grey) creating a large ‘broken plan’ living space facing to distant views and beyond. Consisting of mainly cellular spaces, the scheme provided a large central living area opening to the garden, additional bedrooms, enlarged bathroom, utility room and office space. Materials were to be an agricultural charred timber cladding in black; flat lock zinc in grey and external wall insulation over the existing building in white render.
